ACA Repeal – Again: A Bad Deal for Older Adults and People with Disabilities

— Statement from the Medicare Rights Center and Center for Medicare Advocacy —

The plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) released this week by the Health Policy Consensus Group is essentially a redo of the Graham-Cassidy bill that was overwhelmingly rejected last summer. The American people saw that bill for what it was — bad policy that would have left millions without health coverage.

Like that failed effort, this “new” plan would cause millions of Americans to lose health coverage, while raising costs for people who are older or sicker, and destabilizing the entire health care marketplace. Equally troubling, the plan would weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions and end the ACA’s Medicaid expansion — hurting millions of low-income people, older adults, people with disabilities, children, and families.

As organizations that work to advance equal access to health care, we reject these renewed actions that would undermine access to coverage and care and jeopardize families throughout the country.
