The programs listed below may help you save money on your prescriptions if you qualify. Eligibility requirements vary by program but are often based on age, income, or medical condition. If you have a certain condition, you may find additional resources by asking disease-specific groups, such as Cancer Care, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Diabetes Association.

Helps you pay your prescription drug copays for certain drugs if you have insurance, or pays in full for those drugs if you do not have any insurance. You regular pharmacy or doctor. If you use one of the Chronic Disease Fund’s participating pharmacies, the Fund will be able to pay the pharmacy directly on your behalf. If your pharmacy is not a Chronic Disease Fund participating pharmacy, you must pay for your prescription and then submit your receipts to the Fund for reimbursement.

You must have monthly income under $3,404 ($4,564 for couples) in 2007 .

Your drug must be covered by your prescription drug insurance.

Helps you pay your prescription drug copays if you have insurance, or helps to pay your monthly premium if you are eligible for insurance but cannot afford it. You regular pharmacy or doctor. HealthWell gives you a grant for full or partial assistance for up to 12 months. You submit invoices or receipts to HealthWell, and the foundation sends reimbursement directly to your insurance company, pharmacy, or doctor. If you have paid for the medication yourself, HealthWell may send reimbursement directly to you.

You must have used the National Marrow Patient Assistance Program’s donor registry to find your marrow transplant donor. In addition, the transplant must have been “unrelated,” meaning that your donor is not a family member.

Your income, cost of living (dependent on your family size), and medical expenses are also considered.

Help people obtain Rx they could not otherwise afford or that are not yet on the market. Depends on the program. Over 1,100 rare diseases are listed on NORD’s Web site including AIDS, Alzheimer’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson’s Disease.

You must have insurance that pays for a part of your prescription drugs.

Pays your full copay for prescriptions covered by your insurance. Your regular pharmacy or doctor. Co-Pay Relief is in contact directly with your doctor and insurance company, and will know to reimburse you, your doctor, or your insurance company directly for your prescription copayments.

Copayment assistance for drugs that treat certain medical conditions. Medical items for people with bleeding disorders. Premium assistance for COBRA, high-risk insurance pools and private health insurance. Depends on Program. Apply over the phone. If approved, assistance will be granted for a maximum of two years depending on funding. Should you require assistance beyond the two-year period, you must contact PSI and submit a new application.

Medicaid

Contact information and coverage varies by state. Call your state Medicaid office for more information.

Income limits vary by state. Full Medicaid or Medicaid Excess Income Program "spend-down." Full Rx coverage if you don't have Medicare. Participating pharmacies only. If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, you will get most of your drug coverage through the Medicare prescription drug benefit (Part D).

State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs (SPAPs)

Eligibility requirements vary by program. Vary by program. Many—although not all—require you to enroll in Part D. It depends on the program. Often, SPAPs will help pay for the drugs that you get at your regular pharmacy.
