Medicare Rights Center Board Chair Bruce Vladeck to Testify on the Future of Medicare Before the Senate Committee on Finance

WHAT: Bruce Vladeck, Ph.D., chair of the Medicare Rights Center Board of Directors and former administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration, will present testimony this morning at a United States Senate Committee on Finance hearing titled “Health Care Entitlements: The Road Forward.”

The following is an excerpt from Dr. Vladeck’s testimony. The full text is available at the link below.

“In short, while the Medicare program has long-term financial problems that must be addressed […], the current so-called “crisis” is in fact an artifact of broader problems with the federal budget and budgetary politics, and should not be used as an excuse to dismantle one of the most important programs the federal government has ever operated, or to renege on the commitment this government has made to generations of working people as it has collected taxes from them.”

WHEN: 10 a.m., Eastern Time

WHERE: 215 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, DC
