Statement by Medicare Rights Center President Joe Baker on the Medicare Trustees Report

New York, NY—The Medicare Trustees report released today confirms that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has significantly improved the outlook for Medicare and that we are moving in the right direction. The trustees project that the ACA will keep Medicare solvent through 2029, 12 additional years beyond what was projected last year, and will reduce projected costs of providing outpatient care. While the report is cautious due to the unpredictability of future events, the report provides solid support for the ACA, which must be given a chance to address Medicare’s long-term financial sustainability through innovations that will improve the efficiency of care delivery while keeping quality paramount. It is these innovations that will help combat projected increases in premiums while preserving access to affordable health care for people with Medicare.
