Medicare Rights Center

May 16, 2007

Below is a statement from Robert M. Hayes, president of the Medicare Rights Center, made in response to today's Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing about the marketing tactics used by Medicare private health plans. State insurance department commissioners from Wisconsin and Oklahoma, and a state investigator from Georgia, testified about how sales agents take advantage of seniors and people with disabilities.

“The federal government must protect older and disabled Americans from rampant exploitation. People with Medicare are being locked into costly and ineffective health and drug plans with no oversight from the Bush Administration while at the same time states are barred from protecting them.”
