How To Help As an Enrollment Volunteer
By becoming a LINCS volunteer counselor, YOU can help New Yorkers with limited incomes lower their Medicare costs by thousands of dollars per year!
Health care experts predict that without the kind of one-on-one help that LINCS volunteers provide, less than ten percent of those eligible for this vital benefit will actually get it.
What do LINCS counselors do?
- LINCS volunteer counselors dramatically improve the quality of life for low-income older New Yorkers by helping them access prescription drugs.
- LINCS counselors screen clients for Extra Help-a federal prescription drug subsidy that delivers an average savings of $2,800 per enrollee per year!
- LINCS counselors complete and submit Extra Help applications for people with Medicare who qualify.
There are two ways to volunteer with LINCS:
State LINCSState LINCS volunteers work remotely from their homes. All they need to participate are a few free hours a week and simultaneous internet and telephone capacity. Trainings are done remotely over the phone, at a time that is convenient for the volunteer. Volunteers are trained in Medicare basics and how to assist seniors in obtaining low-income subsidies. Current volunteers range in age from college freshmen to retired professionals.
City LINCSNYC area volunteers serve at one of two locations, either in Times Square or south of Union Square. We offer morning, afternoon, and evening shifts, with most volunteers committing to one four-hour shift per week. RX LINCS volunteers receive training in Medicare basics and enrollment in low-income subsidies. Volunteers enjoy the company of their fellow colleagues and working with MRC staff.
